Our Ethos

Our Ethos is the foundation of everything we do. They guide our mission to empower all bodies to confidently exist and take up space in the world. They shape our approach to the intersectional feminist community we are building, and inspire the curation of our offerings.

Community

Building community is an act of resistance in a culture that promotes individualism over interdependence.

We commit to nurturing a sense of belonging, mutual responsibility, and collective care within our community.

We aren’t meant to go it alone!

Self-love

Self-love is a radical act in a world that constantly seeks to diminish our worth and erode our confidence.

We commit to supporting you on your self-love journey. Self-love is a powerful tool for social change that drives a more compassionate, inclusive, and equitable world.

All-bodies

Centering all-bodies challenges the harmful cultural conditioning that prioritizes some bodies and shames the rest.

We commit to creating an inclusive environment where all bodies feel welcome, supported, and free. The time has come to dismantle the Western idea that yoga is only for certain body types and abilities.

The Studio

Full Bodied Yoga is a new yoga studio located in Portland’s vibrant Central Eastside.

We are opening our doors with a growing team and schedule of practices, workshops, and special events, thoughtfully designed to help you form a deeper connection to Self and to one another—mind, body, and breath. Guided by our commitments to Community, Self-Love, and All-Bodies, we are building a community that empowers all bodies to confidently exist and take up space in the world.

Our intention is to work towards collective liberation in everything we do.

We believe that decolonizing our minds and our practice—a lifelong process of learning and unlearning—is essential to the well-being of ourselves, our communities, and our planet. We will be learning and unlearning beside you, with book clubs, conversations, and workshops designed to help us explore these important ideas together.

As fellow students in this work of decolonization, we aren’t always going to get things right the first time.

Perfection—itself a tool of colonization—is an unhelpful construct that gets in the way of our growth. What we will always do, is continue to do better as we know better, and we extend that same grace to you, as we collectively move towards liberation.

We believe it is our responsibility to challenge the Western appropriation of yoga that has framed yoga as a workout for thin, white, flexible bodies.

In our classes, you will hear Sanskrit words, from the original language of yoga. Our cueing and approach to class design is anti-hierarchical. This means every expression of a pose is enough. We want you, in your unique and evolving body, to experience the essence and intention of the practice and poses. And while the physical practice of yoga (Asana) is a significant part of our offering, it will be taught as a part of the 8 Limbed system from which it comes.

I walked into the space and was instantly greeted with warmth. I don’t think there are words to describe the body and mind experience I had throughout the session. Kelly is an absolute gem and I felt held throughout the whole time. From offering me warm tea on a rainy day to sharing information about the intentions of the space to guiding me through being there for my body. Kelly was intuitive and held so much needed space for me. Thank You!. I’m looking forward to coming back.

This was less of a class and more of an experience. Ariel created a wonderful, relaxing environment for us. I’m so glad I chose to spend New Year’s Eve here and I’ll try to make it back for this program as often as I can!
